THEY’RE GOOD

Cario Laurel and Mercy Aquino undergo “TransAortic Angio Valve Replacement” procedure, are doing well

We received two messages: one from classmate Mercia Crisostomo-Aquino who we heard underwent a heart procedure shortly before Christmas last year, and another from Letty Laurel - wife of classmate Jose Macario “Peping” Laurel IV - that related Cario’s experience with the same procedure three months earlier. Classmate Fe Abarquez-Suaco, who was in the Philippines to attend her brother’s funeral learned of Mercia’s situation during a routine phone call, while Letty Laurel was responding to the news about Mercia’s operation.

The messages:

1. From Mercia:

Mercia Crisostomo-AquinoThanks for your email.

Yes, I had a 'heart procedure  just 1 or 2 days before Christmas. It was a TransAortic/Angio Valve Replacement (TAVR).

Ni hindi ko nga alam na meron palang ganyang systema. It was a major & serious condition - complete OR arena with all the sophisticated equipment, the whole OR professional team. Most important, the cardio specialist who I didn't know fram Adam before this - Dr.Fabio Posas - was one of only 2 drs here in the Philippines who can do this method.

At any rate, dito pa tayo sa 'hold' departure area. Am doing pretty ok, praise Allah indeed. In fact when Fe & I talked recently, she was pala at the wake of her brother dr, also a prominent cardio, whose passing brought Fe to come home.

Thanks plenty plenty to our UPHi group, esp Pete & Vilma. I do keep abreast of our website news.

Happy, Blessed & peaceful New Year to all.

Mercia

Stay well, Mercia!

2. From Letty Laurel:

Jose Macario Laurel IVPeping a.k.a. Cario also underwent the same as Mercia last September 23 at The Medical City. His doctor was the other one of two - Dr. Timothy Dy whose father is the well known cardiologist, Dy Bun Yok. How blessed we are to have those two doctors here in Manila. Peping does not have any medical insurance and going for treatment to the USA would have cost a pretty penny! After 4 days, he was sent home and in less than a month, he was playing golf. The Lord is so good!

Letty Laurel

Enjoy your golf rounds, Cario!
